The Groningen Graduate Schools (GGS)

The Groningen Graduate Schools is the overarching organization for all PhD Programs at the University of Groningen. The GGS coordinates the ten Faculty Graduate Schools that are responsible for the training and supervision of all PhD candidates in their respective faculties.

The GSS’s goal is to provide an inclusive and stimulating environment for PhD candidates by facilitating:

  • intensive contact between prominent academics and students,

  • a challenging interdisciplinary and international environment,

  • professional development opportunities for graduate students,

  • high-level services, activities and events,

  • a setting that fosters academic integrity.

The Groningen Graduate Schools is led by the Dean of Graduate Studies and supported by two Policy Advisors and the Graduate School Office. They are committed to increase the quantity and quality of PhD theses in Groningen, we help our PhD Candidates to finish their thesis within the allotted time-period and we provide a dedicated educational programme for all our PhD Candidates.

 

The Dean of Graduate Studies, together with the directors and coordinators of the faculty Graduate Schools, are responsible for the performance and continued improvement of the Graduate Schools. They bear overall responsibility for the graduate programmes and the academic and personal wellbeing of the students, and they participate in decisions on admissions, financial aid, academic performance and the application of the regulations and policies of the Graduate School.
